LICENSING

A "current" License to Carry, as of October 21,1998 is now automatically considered a Class A License to Carry. It is valid until the expiration date listed upon it at which time renewel is required. Note: It should be renewed before expiration as there is currently no "grace period" allowed.

A "current" F.I.D. card will expire on your birthday in 1999 if you were born between July 1 and December 31. It will expire on your birthday in the year 2000 if your birthday falls between January 1 and June 30. Currently owned "high capacity" rifles or shotguns may continue to be possessed until FID expiration. At that time you must apply for a class B LTC if you wish to continue possession of such rifles or shotguns.

New FID or LTC permits require a certificate from a Basic Firearms Safety course. Currently accepted courses are listed below.

NOTE TO INSTRUCTORS: In addition to your certification as an instructor in one of the listed courses you must also have a certificate from the Massachusetts State Police.
